Poland, Krakow: Just eat another gelato.

I didn’t know that Charlie Chaplin once came 3rd in a look-alike competition but neither did I realize that Tasmania has the cleanest air in the world.
These are some random (and some could argue) slightly useless facts I learnt all from sitting on the toilet and reading the wall.

Krakow isn’t a city that just focuses on respecting a harsh history. Nor is it about sipping a coffee and people watching in market square.

Gelato has a place here. And judging by the queues for a tub or cone of something cold and sweet people were prepared to wait for the best today.

Even a wedding party made a pit stop half way through their day of festivities. We were well impressed to spot the petite bride who I’m sure hadn’t touched anything containing over 300 calories for the past few months, holding a tub whilst still posing for the camera.

Shame I missed capturing this moment on camera as I too was waiting in the queue (taking a photo of this scene).

Food is an obligatory part of any trip and gorging on dumplings is a mandatory in this country. For 10PLN you can stuff yourself silly (especially after a few beers) with a plateful of flavors ranging from meat and cabbage to cottage cheese and spinach. This doesn’t sound so nice on paper but it was delish.

But this city – and country is a sobering place. A trip back in history is a crucial part of any visit including that to reflect on what happened between 1941 – 42 out at Auschwitz. We’ll be reflecting on this tomorrow before we wave goodbye to Poland and say Hello to Slovakia.

My 5 minutes is up. Hope you’ve finished your coffee or taken the last bite of your sandwich. Time to get back to work – or return to what you were doing. My priority is another beer or twait back in the queue for a gelato.

KW not realising that this isn't real. Please don't lick it.
